Biking, Driving, & Road
​Safety Tips

Walk or run against traffic. Wear bright clothes so drivers can see you.

Be aware of your surroundings. Don't text and walk or wear headphones with the music too loud that you can't hear your surroundings. Use crosswalks and take off headphones when crossing the street.

If your car is on fire, pull over, turn off the engine, get everyone at least 100 feet from the car and traffic. Call 911.

When you see water covering the roadway, do not drive through the water. Turn around.

Always wear a bike helmet and bright clothes so people can see you. Put reflectors on your bike.

The helmet should fit snugly all around, with no spaces between the foam and the rider's head.

A bike helmet should not sit too high or low on the rider's head. To check, make sure the bottom of the pad inside the front of the helmet is one or two finger widths above the bike rider's eyebrows. The back of the helmet should not touch the top of the bike rider's neck.
